Fugro Pelagos acquired digital beach, coastline and seafloor habitat data for entry into a GIS database for a unique survey program that brought together for the first time airborne multispectral and multibeam backscatter habitat mapping.

Fairweather Volcano Discovery
In June 2002, Fugro Pelagos provided multibeam bathymetric mapping of the eastern Fairweather Grounds of Alaska for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, using proto-snippet processing of backscatter data. An eroded volcanic cone was discovered.

Aleutians Volcano Mapped
While mapping seafloor habitat for deep-sea coral research under contract by NMFS, Fugro Pelagos successfully mapped Alaska’s first known active undersea volcano in June 2003. The volcano lies in the northwest portion of Amchitka Pass, southeast of Semisopochnoi Island in the Aleutians.

Habitat Mapping in Kodiak Island, Alaska
Fugro Pelagos mapped a small area south of Kodiak Island, using the Research Vessel Davidson, fitted with a hull mounted Reson 8111 multibeam echosounder system.
